Our speaker last week was Kate Nicholas. She is the founder and president of Manchester Ring of Champions Society (ROCS). The mission of Manchester ROCS is to educate youth and young adults in the community in the sport of amateur boxing. Kate told a heartwarming story of how the group was started to fill a void left when the Police Athletic League boxing program closed. Many young people were left without a place to gain focus on their lives and learn a sport as well. The best example of their success is her son, who withdrew after being attacked. After going through the ROCS program, he is now a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces.
