The Rotary Foundation Awards $33,000 Global Grant for the American School for the Deaf

Recently, the Club received word that our Global Grant application to provide a Visual Media Studio for the American School for the Deaf, in West Hartford, was approved. Our Club partnered with the Rotary Club of St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., and both our respective Districts, 7890 and 7020, to fund this Grant. The Rotary Foundation matched club and district contributions to bring the total grant amount to $33,000. The grant provides for the studio equipment and wiring, as well as curriculum materials and professional development of staff. Visual learning is a key component of teaching hearing impaired students, and this studio will open new avenues of education to them. It will also provide training that students can use when they later enter the work force. Work will begin soon, and Club members interested in working on the project should contact Cindy Lang or Don Chandler. All of the funds came from contributions of Rotarians, and this shows how our donations can ultimately enable projects right here at home.
