The Links
A Service Group Established in 1946
Earlier this year, our Club contributed to the Black Family Wellness Expo presented by the Farmington Valley (CT) Chapter of The Links, Kyra Dorsey, President of the local Chapter told us more about the group. The Links is a volunteer service organization committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other people of African ancestry.
The Links has six chapters in Connecticut and over 17,000 members in 200 chapters nationwide. The work of the Farmington Valley chapter is guided by the principles of friendship and service and focuses on five key areas of service:
- Services to Youth,
- The Arts,
- National Trends and Services,
- International Trends and Services,
- and Health and Human Services.
Their mission statement? Friends transforming communities through service.
Sounds familiar, eh? West Hartford Rotary was pleased to hear Kyra's presentation at our May 6th meeting.
As always, many thanks to our Speaker Coordinator, Mary Silverberg, who has an amazing talent for finding interesting speakers for our meetings.
