Hints of what I've got in store....
PLEASE READ!

This weekend, March 9,10 and 11, I  (rick Liftig, President- elect) will be attending the New England PETS (President Elect Training Session) for all incoming Rotary Presidents. There will be a lot of good ideas presented there, I'm sure. But I have also learned that: when you have a good thing going, keep it up - and if you are going to make changes, be smart and tread carefully!

West Hartford Rotary is doing well. The energy and work that went into Vines 2023 was incredible! THANK YOU to all of you who made this happen. Can you believe those numbers? Holy Cow!

Vines is a good thing!

We have been adding members throughout the year.

New blood is a good thing!

We started up a new program (Beatlemania - Rock n' Rotary) and made money from it).

Beatlemania is a good thing!

So what else should we be doing?

Here are some quick thoughts about where I want to lead the club. I've been doing this for some time in other settings and I have learned a few things along the way.

  • Everyone is on the committee. Every member of our Rotary club is a smart and valuable person. Some of have certain talents, but we are all bright leaders - you wouldn't be involved with us if you weren't a leader. In a small club, don't expect one or several folks to pull all the weight. We must all work together. Vines showed that in spades. And we always need new ideas. No idea is a bad idea (well that's a bit of BS, but IT IS IMPORTANT to open your mind to new ideas). Sometimes, a not so great idea, can be massaged into a good one.
  • We need to have a succession plan. It doesn't need to be strict, but for official duties, we need to have titles attached. I hope that you will say yes when I ask you to be a part of this. Kyle and I have been working almost as co-Presidents throughout the year, and I intend to do the same with my successor.
  • You can have all of the good ideas in the world and want to support every cause, but without money, it doesn't mean a thing. We need to continue to plan and promote our events. Plus we need to take advantage of grants - both from the Rotary Foundation and others to maximize our treasury.
  • We need to continually network and spread the word about West Hartford Rotary. We need to keep having events that allow folks to learn about Rotary. We need to keep inviting people to have lunch with us
  • We need to have fun!
