Last week was the Official Visit of our District Governor, Mike Barnett. DG Mike is a member of the South Windsor Rotary Club. Both Mike and his wife Linda are originally from South Africa, and came to the U.S. over 35 years ago. Mike talked some about how he got his start in Rotary. Much of his address to the Club focused on The Rotary Foundation and PolioPlus specifically. As we know, "We're This Close", and the DG encouraged us all to continue giving to PolioPlus. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation again challenged Rotarians: they will match every dollar donated by a Rotarian with two dollars, up to $35 million per year for the next 5 years. Mike also promoted the upcoming District Conference, to be held April 25 - 27, 2014, in Portsmouth, NH. In the photo below (courtesy Cindy Lang), the Governor presents the Club with the theme banner for 2013-2014: "Engage Rotary, Change Lives".
