MINUTES FOR THE MEETING OF

April 14th, 2014 - 12:15 PM

The Pondhouse Cafe

Present: 22 Great Rotarians; 1 visiting Rotarian, and no guests.

Bob Kiley gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Club Presidents opening remarks:

1.     President Hap reviewed today’s agenda. Presenters for this Club Assembly were Eileen Rau and Don Chandler.

2.     Hap announced the District Assembly date: May 12th which is an evening event. Guest speaker will be Ed Futa.

3.     The Farmington Rotary Club will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary on 6/12/14. All are invited to attend this celebration. West Hartford Rotary Club sponsored the Farmington Club.

Sergeant at Arms Todd Bower reports 22 Rotarians are present, with one visiting Rotarian, Jolly Lux from the Avon Club.

Happy dollars were collected. Cindy Lang and Kyle Brewer got a chance at the winning $45 but unfortunately did not draw the lucky card.

Eileen Rau discussed Rotary’s Strategic Plan and plans for future growth and success. Our core values of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity and leadership came from a Focus Group when the Strategic Plan was developed. She also discussed our need to keep membership alive and members engaged. Worldwide membership remains stagnant at 1.2m despite the fact that we install new members every day.

Eileen also discussed the Rotary Foundation. A video was shown of the impact The Foundation had on the school system in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and vocational training for women in India that highlighted their path to financial independence and a hope of ending poverty. These were only two of hundreds of projects supported by the Foundation.

Dave Mangs was presented with his 6th Paul Harris by PDD Eileen. Dave also presented a $250 check for Polio Plus.

Don Chandler did a presentation on how to log onto and navigate through Rotary.org. He also distributed a “cheat sheet” of step by step instructions on how to get onto the website.

Kyle Brewer asked for 4 volunteers for the May 4th “A Hand Up” project. He is estimating that this will be a 2-hour project for either picking up furniture or a move-in.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:35, with Hap leading the 4-way test.  The next meeting is April 21st, 2014 at Pondhouse Cafe.

Respectfully submitted,

 Susan Chandler, scribe
