Our speaker was Tom Condon of the Courant, talking about the ongoing Busway project. It was born out of the need to reduce the congestion on I-84. He described how years ago, there were four choices: do nothing, widen I-84, improve rail service or build the Busway. While stile embroiled in controversy, Tom feels the Busway is the best of the options, and, when completed, will significantly reduce rush hour traffic jams. It is due to be completed in late 2014. More than two thirds of the funding for the $ 573 million project comes from Federal grants.
