President Hap Leabman called the meeting to order. Donna Griffen gave the invocation. There were 24 club members in attendance and two visiting Rotarians.

Hap informed membership that our club was contacted by the Glastonbury club asking us to contribute toward a program that will fill 2,000 backpacks for Hartford first graders with school supplies. Club officers may make a decision on this at their next meeting.

The West Hartford Public Schools also have a backpack program. Hap proposed that we contribute to both. There were no objections.

Cindy Lang reported that Lobsterfest tickets should be available next week. A PDF will be created for members who want to solicit people via email. She thanked those members who helped distribute posters around town.

Kyle Egress reported that Farmington Bank has signed on as a $1,000 Lobsterfest sponsor. We have now received pledges for more than $2,000 toward a sponsorship goal of $10,000.

Eileen Rau reminded everyone that the district golf outing is scheduled for August 5 at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass. She also noted that the West Hartford Food Pantry is in short supply of many items.

The Rotary Leadership Institute will be held on November 2 at Middlesex Community College in Middletown. They club will pay the way for any member interested in attending.

The guest speakers were three members of the district Group Study Exchange team that visited Turkey: Danny Lee, Lauren Alix and Manchester Rotarian Marty Fins. They had a wonderful time and were greeted with great hospitality and generosity, making many new friends and learning a great deal about the food and culture. They remained safe during anti-government rioting that occurred during their visit.

Happy birthday to Joe Bednarz and Jim Ruel.

Cindy Lang filled in as sergeant at arms. Nobody won the card drawing. The pot is well over $200 and continues to grow.

Respectfully submitted,
