MINUTES FOR THE MEETING OF  January 5, 2015 - 12:15 PM
The Pondhouse Cafe

Present: 36 Rotarians and guests.

Eileen Rau gave the invocation and led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Club President’s opening remarks:
1.Discussed late 2014 events:  A Food Share breakfast on 12/22, a Food Share Dinner on 12/20 attended by Don and Susan Chandler, Eileen Rau, and President Cindy, and the Christmas morning meal preparation organized by Bennett Forrest.
2.The next Board Meeting will be Tuesday, Jan 20th at Cindy’s studio at 7:30 am.  All Rotarians are invited to attend.
3.There will be NO MEETING on Monday, Jan 19th due to Martin Luther King holiday.  However, there will be a Food Share event at Town Hall that day from 10 – 11:30.
4.Eileen Rau discussed the Rotary Foundation.  Our goal is $6300 with a stretch of $10,000 – to date we are just over $3000.  She discussed the ‘Every Rotarian / Every Year’ concept and then two examples where the club leveraged the Foundation for projects.  Examples included the Philippines water project, where $1600 from the club became a $29,000 donation; the ASD Project, which leveraged $4000 from the club into $33,000; and a USVI project, where $3000 was leveraged into a $25,000 project.
5.Mary Silverberg – discussed two possible club fellowship events:  a ‘Stomp the Dancing’ event in late March, or attendance at a presentation of ‘Hair’ in mid June.  An informal vote indicated a majority of members preferred the latter.
6.Susan Chandler – discussed the upcoming “White Elephant / Ugly Sweater / Pot Luck” event on Saturday, Jan 10th.

Sergeant at Arms John Smeallie reports 34 Rotarians are present, plus Elena DeVaughn – guest of her husband Booker, and Carl, a Rotarian from the Torringon club.

Happy dollars were collected.  The pot is up to $24 and nobody won this week.

The main meeting was a Club Assembly.

Tony Rodriguez reviewed the results of the mid-2014 Club Survey, which will be posted on the club web site.

Donna Griffen reviewed the status of the upcoming March of Vines event.  Right now, she needs support in three key areas:
-Auction items
-Sponsorships
-Smaller items for the silent auction
She reminded everyone that is critical we push attendance, so bring friends!  The event is Saturday, March 7th at the JCC, from 7-10:30, and tickets are $50.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:45, with President Cindy leading the 4-way test.  The next meeting is January 12th, 2014 at Pondhouse Cafe.

Respectfully submitted,
Chad Licht, scribe
